, p. 2913 - 2916 (2007/10/02)
As a model for light energy conversion, various acylnorbornadienes and their corresponding valence isomers acylquadricyclanes have been prepared.Among these (19) and (31) were found to be the best pair for the purpose because of the visible light absorption of (19), a high quantum yield for its photocycloaddition and a rapid and complete reversion of (31) to (19) with an acid catalyst.
Photochromic Solid Films Prepared by Doping with Donor-Acceptor Norbornadienes

, p. 195 - 198 (2007/10/02)
Thin solid films of PMMA doped with donor-acceptor norbornadienes were prepared, and their photochromic properties were examined. The photochromic solid films have absorption at a visible region, and their photochemical decolorization due to valence isomerization proceeded in high quantum yields. They show resistivity for the repeated cycle of the interconversions and no loss in the extinction was observed even after 1E3 times of cycle reactions.
Valence Isomerisation between Coloured Acylnorbornadienes and Quadricyclanes as a Promising Model for Visible (Solar) Light Energy Conversion
Hirao, Ken-ichi,Ando, Akira,Hamada, Tatsuo,Yonemitsu, Osamu
, p. 300 - 302 (2007/10/02)
Among many coloured norbornadienes which have been synthesised bearing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents, the 2,3-diphenyl-5-methoxycarbonyl-6-propionyl derivative was found to satisfy many important requirements for the chemical con
