Synthesis and characterization of new, air-stable closo-1-Os(CO)3-2,3-[(CH3)3Si] 2-2,3-C2B4H4

The closo-osmacarborane, 1-Os(CO)3-2,3-[(CH3)3Si]2-2,3-C 2B4H4, has been synthesized by the reaction of Os3(CO)12 with either closo-Sn[(CH3)3Si]2C2B 4H4 or nido-[(CH3)3Si]2C2B 4H6. The reaction of Os3(CO)12 with the closo-stannacarborane yielded the osmacarborane in gram quantities in almost quantitative yields, while nido-[(CH3)3Si]2C2B 4H6 produced the osmacarborane in much lower yields.
