5-Aryl-4-halogeno-2,3-dihydro-2,3-furandiones were obtained by the halognation of 5-aryl-2,3-dihydro-2,3-furandiones.The kinetics of the thermal decarbonylation of the products, leading to the formation of 6-aryl-3-aroyl-5-bromo-4-hydroxy-2-pyranones, were investigated.A comparative assessment of the kinetics and activation parameters of the reaction indicates that the decarbonylation reaction has concerted character.
