Complexes of CO(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with 2-(acetylamino)benzoic acid (C9H9NO3), 2-(benzoylamino)benzoic acid (C14H11NO3), 2-benzoic acid (C14H11NO3) and 2-benzoic acid (C18H13NO3) have been prepared and characterized on the basis of analytical, conductivity, magnetic susceptibility, thermal, IR, electronic, ESR and NMR spectral studies.IR and NMR spectra show that all the benzoic acids act as mononegative bidentate ligands.Coordination occurs through carboxylate oxygen and amide nitrogen in 2-(acetylamino)benzoic acid and 2-(benzoylamino)benzoic acid, whereas it occurs through carboxylate oxygen and oxygen of amide group in 2-benzoic acid and 2-benzoic acid.The probable structures of the complexes have been assined and various ligand field and nephelauxetic parameters have been evaluated.From the ESR spectra of Cu(II) complexes various ESR and MO parameters have been calculated.
