N,N-Dimethylchlorosulfitemethaniminium chloride prepared from thionylchloride and dimethylformamide in dry benzene at ambient temperature was found to be an efficient and mild cyclodehydrating agent of N-benzoyl amino acids for the synthesis of various β-
