(Chemical Equation Presented) A tetrahydropyran intermediate, prepared from (-)-diethyl tartrate, was used to assemble the C31-C67 fragment of amphidinol 3. Both of the tetrahydropyran rings in the natural product were prepared from this intermediate. The polyene segment was assembled with high selectivity.
