The nuclephilic and homolytic addition of cyanoacetic, malonic, and acetoacetic esters to 2-vinylpyridine under the conditions of phase-transfer catalysis gave the esters of the corresponding pyridylalkenecarboxylic acids.The products are of interest as reagents for the synthesis of physiologically active substances.
