The reduction by LiAlH4 of the carbonyl cations 5-C5H5)Fe(L)2(CO)>+ (L = Ph3P; L2 = bis-tertiary phosphine) and 5-C5H5)FeL(CO)2>+ (L = Ph3P, Me3P) produces the corresponding carbonyl-hydride or -methyl com

In recognition of the limited petroleum reserves of the world, interest has grown in the conversion of coal to a synthetic fuel. An experiment has been carried out on reducing CO in a cationic iron carbonyl complex with the use of NaBH//4. The studies effected using neutral transition-metal hydrides indicate that they are less efficient than NaBH//4, especially in the reduction of hydroxymethyl to methyl. 100 Refs.
