3> has been synthesised from 2- and > in tetrahydrofuran and shown to have a distorted tricapped octahedral cluster geometry by a single crystal X-ray crystallographic determination; the capping positions are occupied by the iron atoms and the tripodal ligand is co-ordinated to three silver atoms on a face of the octahedron.
