2H,8H-Naphthobenzo-2,8-quinolinedione (naphthocenopyridone)and its 3-acetyl and 9-phenoxyl derivatives, which exhibit the capacity for lactam-lactim tautomerism and photochromism, were synthesized.Their methylation leads to O-methyl derivatives. 4-Methyl-6-phenoxyanthrapyridone is also methylated at the oxygen atom.The phenoxy derivatives of 2-methoxy-4-methylanthrapyridine and 2-methoxynaphthacenopyridine are photochromic.
