4-Bromo-2-chloromethylbenzothiophene (V) and 4-bromobenzothiophene-2-carboxamides (VII, XI) have been converted into 2-aminomethyl- and 2-(N-methyl)aminomethyl-benzothiophenes (VIII, XII).The amine (VIII) has been transformed into N-substituted 2-guanidinomethylbenzothiophenes (IX) by reaction with appropriate N-substituted S-methylisothioureas.
