Condensation of quinoline-5,6-diamine (I) with ketones in acetic acid results in the formation of 2,2,4-trialkyl/aryl-2,3-dihydro-1H-diazepinoquinolines (II) and substituted imidazoquinoline derivatives (VI-VIII).The nature of the product obtained varies with the nature of ketone.The formation of the products in these reactions has been rationalised.
