2-(2-Amino-3-pyridyl)-benzimidazoles (III) have been synthesized by the reaction of o-phenylenediamines (II) with 2-aminonicotinaldehyde (I) in the presence of nitrobenzene and ethanol.The structure of these compounds have been established by their elemental analysis and IR, PMR and mass spectral data.The antimicrobal activity of the products against various bacteria and fungi has also been evaluated.
