Syntheses of a series of polycyclic thiadiazole derivatives (3 and 6) where the thiadiazole ring is annelated to a six- or seven-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring have been reported.Effect of ring size and electronic effect of substituents on thiadiazole ring annelation and effect of such changes on the spectral properties of the products have been briefly discussed.
