A short and efficient synthesis of 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-1,5-methano-2-benzazepines (B-norbenzomorphans) carrying hydroxy, alkoxy, and acyloxy groups at the C-5 position, based on the acid-catalysed cyclization of 2-aryl-1-formyl-4-piperidones, is described.
