The reaction of 2-furfurylidenemalononitriles with gem-dithiols of the alicyclic and cyclic series in methanol under the influence of organic bases leads to substituted 4-(2-furyl)-3-cyano-2(1H)-pyridinethiones.The products were used in the synthesis of 3-amino-4-(2-furyl)thienopyridines and some of their derivatives.
