The invention discloses a method for preparing a pioglitazone impurity C by a one-pot process. The method comprises the following step: by using 4-[2-(5-ethyl-2-pyridyl)ethoxy]benzaldehyde, ethyl (5-ethyl-2-pyridyl) methanesulfonate and 2,4-thiazolidinyl dione as raw materials, carrying out reaction by a one-pot process to obtain the pioglitazone impurity C. The method has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, simple technique, short reaction time, fewer byproducts and high yield, and can obtain the high-purity pioglitazone impurity C.
