Reactions of [W(N2)2(dpe)2] (dpe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) with HFeCo3(CO)12 in water-tetrahydrofuran formed [W(OH)(NNH2)(dpe)2][FeCo3(CO)12]. Treatment of an anion-exchanged derivative [W(OH)(NNH2)(dpe)2]PF6 with acetone in the presence of HFeCo3(CO)12 afforded [W(OH)(NNCMe2)(dpe)2]PF6. No hydrazido(2-) complex formed in dichloromethane, and [WCl2(dpe)2][FeCo3(CO)12] was obtained. This complex and its anion-exchanged derivatives showed the NMR spectra characteristic of paramagnetic (μeff ? 1.5 μB) complexes. The X-ray crystal structure of [WCl2(dpe)2]BF4·1/3CH2Cl 2 (10) was determined. Complex 10 crystallized in the trigonal P3 space group, with a = 21.027 (3) A?, c = 11.091 (2) A?, V = 4246.8 (15) A?3, and Z = 3. With 3208 unique reflections, R converged to 0.079 (Rw = 0.091). The Mo-Cl distance was 2.312 (5) A?.
