Synthesis of Methyl 3-O-Benzyl-4-deoxy-β-D-arabino-hexopyranoside and Its 3-O-Methyl Analogue

Starting with the glucosane derivative 1 a convenient synthetic sequence for the preparation of methyl 3-O-benzyl- and 3-O-methyl-β-D-arabino-hexopyranoside (6) has been elaborated.An easy route to the methyl 2,3-anhydro-4-deoxy-β-D-lyxohexopyranoside (5b) is demonstrated.
