956461-79-3 Usage
General Description
8-Chloro-2,3,4,5-tetrahydropyrido[3,2-f][1,4]oxazepine, also known as "clozapine," is a synthetic tricyclic compound with antipsychotic properties. It acts as a serotonin and dopamine receptor antagonist, and is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, particularly in patients who do not respond to other antipsychotic medications. Clozapine has also been found to be effective in reducing suicidal behavior in patients with schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. However, it also carries a risk of potentially serious side effects, including agranulocytosis, myocarditis, and seizures, and therefore requires close monitoring of blood cell counts and cardiovascular function in patients undergoing treatment. Despite these risks, clozapine remains a valuable option for the management of treatment-resistant schizophrenia.
