13C high resolution liquid and solid (CP MAS) states NMR spectroscopy has been coupled with DSC, X-ray diffraction, infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy techniques to study the mechanisms, kinetics, solid state structures and conformation of several polyimides.Chemical data were obtained on model compounds and applied for polymers synthetised by polycondensation or chain extension and crosslinking.We have shown that solid state 13C NMR and IRFT were able to detect chemical structure differences caused by different cure schedules.Key words: Polyetherimides, bismaleimides, mechanisms, kinetics, solid and liquid state 13C NMR, IRFT, DSC, X-ray diffraction.
