A cobalt complex having bis-[C(trimethylsilyl)-N-arylimino]dimethylsilane, Me3Si(C=NAr)SiMe2(C=NAr)SiMe3 (Ar = 2,6-xylyl), as a new β-diimine ligand was synthesized, and its structure was compared with those of α- and β-diimine cobalt complexes. Ethylene polymerization catalyzed by these cobalt complexes and their in situ generated nickel homologues was investigated.
