The dimer 2 of 1,5-cyclooctadien-3-yne (1) forms a bisadduct 6 with 4-phenyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione (PTD).The spectroscopic data suggest one of the symmetrical structures a - d.An X-ray analysis reveals constitution c.Therefore, the two PTD molecules react in a twofold regiospecific s + ?4s>-cycloaddition; moreover they attack stereospecifically from the same side.According to the X-ray data, the conformation of the tricyclo2,9>hexadeca-3,8,11,16-tetraene sceleton consists of two boatlike eight-membered rings and a central slightly folded four-membered ring.
