In this paper we report the X-ray structure of (Z)-3,10-diphenyldispirotridecane (6c) as well as the syntheses of some other compounds derived from bicyclohexylidene, bearing alkyl (4a,b,5a,b,6a,b,11a,b), phenyl (4c,5c,6c,11c) and heterocyclic (4d,8,9) groups in the 4,4'- (3,10- resp.) position of the bicyclohexyl unit.These have been investigated with respect to their liquid crystalline properties together with their precursing azines 2a-d and thiadiazolines 3a-d.
