Microcystin LA is a hepatotoxic cyclic heptapeptide toxin produced by cyanobacteria, which is responsible for periodic poisonings of humans and livestock following consumption of freshwater in areas where blue-green algae are endemic. It inhibits the catalytic activity of protein phosphatase (PP) 1 and PP2A, with an IC50 value of 0.3 nM.
Used in Analytical Chemistry:
Microcystin LA is used as a standard for liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LCMS) for toxin analysis in various applications, such as environmental monitoring and assessing the safety of water sources.

96180-79-9 Usage

Biochem/physiol Actions

Microcystin LA inhibits protein phosphatase type 2A and protein phosphatase type 3 more potently than protein phosphatase type 1 (order of potency PP2A > PP3 > PP1). Induces neutrophil-activating chemokines and extracellular reactive oxygen species, possible mechanisms of its hepatotoxic effects.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 96180-79-9 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 9,6,1,8 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 96180-79:
(7*9)+(6*6)+(5*1)+(4*8)+(3*0)+(2*7)+(1*9)=159
159 % 10 = 9
So 96180-79-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
