The behavior of the diacetate of 1,1,4,4-tetranitro-2,3-butanediol in various media was studied in order to investigate the possibility of the synthesis of 1,1,4,4-tetranitro-1,3-butadiene.It was established that deacetylation takes place readily under normal conditions in the presence of bases (OH- and OCH3- ions, aniline), with which the tetranitrobutadiene produced in situ forms bisaddition products.The production of tetranitrobutadiene as intermediate is also confirmed by the fact that charge-transfer complexes, which are in time transformed into the products from the reaction with the base, are formed in the presence of donors.
