In the reactions of secondary acetylenic alcohols of the furan series with acids in the presence of ethanol the main reaction products were Z,E-dihydrofuranylidenes, irrespective of the character of the substituent.In the case of α-methylfurylalkynylcarbinols a small amount of the products from opening of the furan ring was also formed.
