Either 1-amino-4-cyanazulenotriazole or 3-amino-4-cyanazulenotriazole reacts with lead tetraacetate in dichlormethane to give the unexpected ring cleavage product, 1,8,8-tricyanoheptafulvene in good yield instead of the expected 1-cyano-2,3-dehydroazulene.
