The reaction of (CH3)3SiC≡CSi(CH3)3 and B5H9 at 135-140°C in a stainless-steel reactor produced the title compound III as an air-stable solid, along with the known compounds {[(CH3)3SiCH=CSi-(CH3)3] 2BH}2 (I) and nido-[(CH3)3Si]2C2B 4H6 (II). Compound III was characterized by IR, mass, and 1H, 13C, and 29Si NMR spectra and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound III crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 (no. 2) with a = 6.466 (1) A?, b = 9.073 (2) A?, c = 10.965 (2) A?, α = 74.29 (2)°, β = 85.72 (1)°, γ = 71.90 (1)°, U = 589 (1) A?3, and Z = 1. Final refinement converged at values R = 0.0602 and Rw = 0.0699. Under similar conditions, the pyrolysis of [(CH3)3SiCH=CSi(CH3)3]3B failed to produce III.
