A synthesis of 2-selenyl and sulfenyl 4-oxoesters based on Lewis acid promoted activation of methyl 2-trimethylsiloxy cyclopropanecarboxylates is reported.A mechanistic scheme for this new C-Se and C-S forming reaction is disclosed.
