The title compounds have been synthesized but neither the second of them nor 1,1'-bisbiphenylenyl could be dehydrocyclised to give biphenyleno-annelated derivatives of cyclo-octatetraene. 2-Styrylbiphenylene undergoes photodimerisation and not cyclisation
