Generation and Trapping of Cyclopropene-3-carboxaldehyde and 2,3-Butadienal in Liquid Furan Photolysis

The photolysis of liquid furan at room temperature generated cyclopropene-3-carboxaldehyde and 2,3-butadienal, which were trapped as their Diels-Alder adducts with furan.In each case, both the exo and endo stereoisomers were obtained.The identity of these adducts, and also their stereochemistry, has been determined by MS, IR, and 1H and 13C NMR.
