Calix[n]arenes 1-3 (n = 4, 6 and 8) were alkylated with alkyl chlorides in the presence of anhydrous aluminium chloride in chloroform by Friedel-Crafts reaction to give p-alkylcalix[n]arens 5-7 (n = 4, 6 and 8) in good to excellent yields.
