A tetraphenylporphyrin capped with a calixaryl amide through L-alanine pillars (compound 1) has been synthesized.Owing to C4 symmetry in both the tetraphenylporphyrin and the calixarene this molecule still retains C4 symmetry.A

A tetraphenylporphyrin capped with a calixarene through four chiral pillars has been synthesized.This molecule retains C4 symmetry characteristic of porphyrins.The preliminary experiments indicated that the cavity shows unique guest-binding properties.

L-Amino acids combined with the atropisomeric porphyrins, meso-tetra(o-aminophenyl)porphyrin and meso-tetra(o-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin, induced circular dichroism at the Soret band of porphyrins to an extent which depended on conformation.
