A new biflavonoid, named as galluflavanone and isolated from the alcoholic extract of the nut shells of Semecarpus anacardium Linn., has been dehydrogenated with iodine and potassium acetate in gl. acetic acid to the corresponding, relatively more stable biflavone designated as SA6.The structure of galluflavanone has been established on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidences.
