Alcoholysis of the 4-arylamino group of a number of 2,4-diarylaminocyclopent-2-enones occurs readily to form the 4-alkoxy derivatives.Under suitable conditions a number of other nucleophiles yielded a variety of 4-substituted 2-arylaminocyclopent-2-enones.As by-products of these reactions several compounds having a novel tetracyclic structure were isolated.
