Tris-ethylsulfanyl-borane, also known as triethylsulfanylborane or (EtS)3B, is a chemical compound consisting of a boron atom bonded to three ethylsulfanyl (EtS) groups. It is a colorless, volatile, and highly reactive liquid with a pungent odor. This organoborane compound is widely used as a reducing agent in organic synthesis, particularly in the reduction of carbonyl compounds to alcohols. It is also employed as a catalyst in various chemical reactions, such as the hydroboration of alkenes and alkynes. Due to its high reactivity, tris-ethylsulfanyl-borane must be handled with caution, as it can react violently with air and water.
