, p. 133 - 140 (2007/10/02)
The novel decamethylruthenicenium cation + undergoes a facile deprotonation/oxidation reaction to yield a tetramethylfulvene cation *C5Me4-exo-CH2>+ (Cp*=η5-C5Me5), +, together with neutral 1.The reaction is promoted by weakly coordinating Lewis bases such as Cl-. + is also generated by hydride abstraction from 1 with Ph3CBF4.Addition of nucleophiles Nu to + gives neutral complexes RuCp*C5Me4CH2Nu (Nu=R2NH, ROH or OH-).The mechanism of formation of + is discussed with reference to electrochemically evaluated redox properties of the species involved.
