gamma-poly-glutamic acid (γ-pga) is a natural, multifunctional, biodegradable biopolymer produced from l-glutamic acid through fermentation process using a bacillus subtilis. pga is a water-soluble homo-polyamide consisting of d- and l-glutamic acid monomers connected by amide linkages between α-amino and γ-carboxyl groups. it is biodegradable, edible and non-toxic for human and environment. it can be applied in the fields of medicine, food, cosmetics, plastics and water treatment.
