introduction of hydroxypropyl (s) into the molecular of beta-cyclodextrin hydrate breaks inner annular hydrogen bond and thus it increases the water solubility of beta-cyclodextrin hydrate without breaking its molecular cavity.

1.in food and spice industry, hp-β-cd can increase stability and shelf-life of nutrient molecule, can cover or rectify unpleasant smell or taste of nutrient molecule. hp-β-cd has good water solubility, if the degree of substitution (ds) is greater than 4, it will be miscible with water, 50% ethanol and methanol water solution.
