Preparation: this chemical is prepared by reacti on of Methanol with Nonanal. The reaction needs reagents TiCl4, NH3 and solvent CH2Cl2. The reaction temperature is 0 °C. The yield is about 95 %.

The 1,1-Dimethoxynonane can be obtained by Methanol and Nonanal

Uses: it is used to produce other chemicals. For example, it is used to produce 2-Methoxy-decanenitrile. This reaction needs reagent Trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate. Meanwhile, it needs solvent CH2Cl2. The reaction time is 20 min with reaction temperature of -78 °C. The yield is about 90 %.

The 1,1-Dimethoxynonane can react with Trimethyl-prop-1-ynyl-silane  to get 2-Methoxy-decanenitrile
