- The relative enthalpy to 573 K and standard enthalpy of formation of sodium tetrachloroaluminate, NaAlCl4
-
The relative enthalpy of NaAlCl4 has been determined by drop calorimetry in the temperature interval 298 to 573 K to be: 0(T)-H0(298.15 K)>/J mol-1 = 143.16(T/K)-42804, (298 to 414 K), 0(T)-H0(298

- Solubility of Nickel Chloride in Molten Sodium Tetrachloroaluminate saturated with Sodium Chloride over the Temperature Range 200-400 deg C
-
Interesting thermodynamic data have been obtained from experiments in molten sodium tetrachloroaluminate. The solubility of NiCl2 in chlorobasic (NaCl-saturated) NaAlCl4 has been studied over the temperature range 200-400 deg C, leading to the result that the apparent standard enthalpy change for the dissolution of NiCl2 in this system is independent of temperature over this range. This is normally only the case in simple solvents and/or where free ions are formed.A model is presented which accounts for the observations.

- Some physicochemical characteristics of molten salts derived from trimethylsulfonium bromide
-
Ambient temperature melts were derived from trimethylsulfonium bromide (TMSuBr) and AlBr3, AlCl3, or HBr.The aluminium halide melts have low-wavelength UV cutoffs and single-band 1H NMR spectra. In the TMSuBr-HBr system, the formation of HBr2- and likely existence of H2Br3- are indicated by 1H NMR and IR spectra.Conductivity and viscosity data indicate stronger TMSu+ -anion interactions than those between substituted imidazolium and halide anions.A Grotthus mechanism may operate for conduction in TMSuBr:HBr melts.Key words: ambiant temperature melts, trimethylsulfonium-anion interactions, Grotthus mechanism.

- Crystallographic and 27Al NMR study on premelting phenomena in crystals of sodium tetrachloroaluminate
-
The crystal structure of NaAlCl4 was determined in the orthorhombic space group P212121 (D24, No. 19; Z = 4) at temperatures 138, 150, and 154 ± 0.2°C, resulting in the lattice parameters a = 10.442 (4), 10.449 (3), 10.455 (2) A?, b = 9.973 (3), 9.993 (2), 10.002 (2) A?, and c = 6.202 (2), 6.206 (2), 6.204 (2) A?, respectively. Samples of the compound were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. 27Al NMR spectra were obtained on NaAlCl4 and LiAlCl4 solids as a function of temperature up to and above the melting points, at 157 and 146°C, respectively. In accordance with the enhanced premelting heat contents, the observed phenomena indicate the existence of a specific dynamical behavior of the components in the two crystals, involving reorientational noncontinuous movements of the AlCl4- ions and translational jumps of the alkali-metal cations.

- Calorimetric study of the acidity of Y-zeolites treated with silicon tetrachloride
-
The acidity of synthetic HY samples dealuminated with silicon tetrachloride vapour at various temperatures is investigated using microcalorimetry. The work covers sample preparation, characterization, and acidic properties. The differential heats of ammonia adsorption versus coverage and the acidity spectra are described. The catalytic performance is measured in the hydrogen transfer reaction.
