One Synthetic Way of E 5110
  • One Synthetic Way of E 5110
  • E 5110 (CAS NO.: 107746-52-1), with its systematic name of 2-Pyrrolidinone, 3-((3,5-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl)methylene)-1-methoxy-, could be produced through many synthetic methods.

Following is one of the synthesis routes:One Synthetic Way of E 5110

Gamma-butyrolactone (I) reacts with Br2 and PBr3 at 100 C followed by a treatment with SOCl2 to produce 2,4-dibromobutanoyl chloride (II), and the yielding compound is then condensed with O-methylhydroxylamine in the presence of NaOH in CHCl3 affording N-methoxy-3-bromopyrrolidin-2-one (III). Next, the reaction of (III) with triphenylphosphine (IV) in hot THF affords the triphenylphosphonium salt (V), which is finally condensed with 3,5-di(tert-butyl)-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (VI) by means of triethylamine in hot ethanol.
