A ferrous alloy (d 7.75, mp 500C) containing, in addition to iron, 16.5–18% chromium, 1.1% carbon, 0.75–1% silicon, 0.35–0.5% manganese. It is resistant to cold ammonium hydroxide in all concentrations and to mine and seawaters and moist sulfurous atmospheres.
