Specification
The IUPAC name of this chemical is diethoxy(dimethyl)silane. With the CAS registry number 78-62-6, it is also named as Silane, diethoxydimethyl-. The product's categories are Aromatic Hydrocarbons (substituted) & Derivatives; Dialkoxysilanes; Functional Materials; Si (Classes of Silicon Compounds); Silane Coupling Agents; Silane Coupling Agents (Intermediates); Si-O Compounds; Alkoxy Silanes; Crosslinkers; Crosslinking Agents. It is colorless clear liquid which is toxic and flammable by fire, heat and oxidants. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes. So the storage environment should be well- ventilated, low-temperature and dry. Keep Diethoxydimethylsilane separate from oxidants and acids.

Uses of Diethoxydimethylsilane: It is a precursor in the production of the silicone polymer polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). It also can react with 2,2'-oxy-bis-ethanol to get 2,2-dimethyl-[1,3,6,2]trioxasilocane. This reaction needs reagent NaOCH3 and solvent dioxane, methanol by heating. The yield is 80%.
