by flash column chromatography (FC) on silica gel to afford the
corresponding propargylic amine.
General procedure for the one-pot catalytic hydrogenation and
hydrogenolysis of N-benzyl--alkynylpiperidines
A stirred mixture of a N-benzyl--alkynylpiperidine (1.0 mmol), 0.5 mL
conc. HCl, and 10% Pd(OH)2/C (10% wt) in methanol (5 mL) was
hydrogenated under 1 atm of hydrogen (balloon) at room temperature.
When the reaction was judged to be completed by TLC monitoring, the
mixture was filtered under a reduced pressure, and the residue was
washed with methanol (5 mL). The combined filtrates were concentrated
under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by flash column
chromatography (FC) on silica gel to afford the corresponding product.
