DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) The content of the C2-C5 diads and microstructure of ethylene-isoprene copolymers (I) [26587-33-7] prepd. in the presence of TiCl4-electron donor- iso-Bu3Al [100-99-2] catalysts depended primarily on the Al-Ti ratio (R). At R = 1, only polyisoprene was formed. I were formed at R 33. An increase in R from 3 to 15 increased the content of the C2-C5 diads in I with accompanying increase of the 3,4-bonds in the diads at the expense of the 1,4-trans bonds. Further increase in R had no effect on microstructure of the isoprene units. The rate of the copolymn. was max. at R = 15. An increase in the content of ethylene in reaction mixt. at R = 15 increased the reaction rate and at R = 5, decreased it. The rate of copolymn. depended on the nature of the electron donor and decreased in the sequence AcPh [98-86-2] > B3Ph [119-61-9] > AcMe [67-64-1].
