Use of the Monte Carlo method for the calculation of reactivity coefficients r1,r'1,r2,r'2 in the copolymerization of N-tert-alkylacrylamides with styrene. Communication. Zurakowska-Orszagh, Janina; Busz, Waldemar; Habich, Bogdan; Romiszowski, Piotr (Uniw. Warszawska, Warsaw, Pol.). Polimery (Warsaw), 22(2), 55-6 (Polish) 1977. CODEN: POLIA4. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) The reactivity ratios were calcd. for the following monomer pairs: N-tert-butylacrylamide [107-58-4]-styrene (I) [100-42-5], N-tert-amylacrylamide [3729-16-6]-I, N-tert-hexylacrylamide [51330-07-5]-I, and N-tert-heptylacrylamide [51330-02-0]-I in PrOH or dioxane contg. ZnCl2 using a computer and the Monte Carlo procedure. The method involved choosing any 4 integers from 0-20 for the reactivity ratios, substituting them into the Goldfinger-Alfrey equation, and detg. the difference (.DELTA.) between the exptl. and the calcd. mol. ratio of monomer units in the copolymers. This procedure was repeated until .DELTA. became negligible.
Neurotoxicity of acrylamide and related compounds in rats
Neurotoxicity of acrylamide and related compounds in rats. Effects on rotarod performance, morphology of nerves and neurotubulin. Tanii, Hideji; Hashimoto, Kazuo (Sch. Med., Kanazawa Univ., Ishikawa 920, Japan). Arch. Toxicol., 54(3), 203-13 (English) 1983. CODEN: ARTODN. ISSN: 0340-5761. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) The neurotoxic properties of acrylamide [79-06-1] and 7 related compds. in rats were studied with regard to the effects on rotarod performance, morphol. of nerves, and neurotubulin. Compds. used were acrylamide, N-hydroxymethylacrylamide [924-42-5], N-isopropylacrylamide [2210-25-5], methacrylamide [79-39-0], N-methylacrylamide [1187-59-3], crotonamide [23350-58-5], diacetone acrylamide [2873-97-4], and N-tert-butylacrylamide [107-58-4]. Animals were given the chems. in their drinking water for 90 days. A deficit of rotarod performance was produced by 5 compds.: acrylamide, N-hydroxymethylacrylamide, N-isopropylacrylamide, methacrylamide, and N-methylacrylamide. Morphol. changes in tibial and sural nerves, such as shrinking and loss of myelinated fibers, myelin retraction, and corrugated myelin sheaths, were obsd. after treatment with these 5 compds. Depression of the [3H]colchicine binding to neurotubulin (the sol. protein) of sciatic nerves was detected after giving these 5 compds. After acrylamide dosing, the depression progressed with time. 79-06-1 and 1187-59-3 are just another two chemicals used in this study. A significant redn. of the colchicine binding to neurotubulin was also detected in the spinal cord of both the cervical and the lumbar regions, but neither in the brain nor the cerebellum. .
