DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 49 (Industrial Inorganic Chemicals) Liq.-phase carbonization was studied using 2 kinds of molten salts: NaCl 26 -KCl 14-AlCl3 60 mol% (MS-A) and ethylpyridinium bromide 33-AlCl3 67 mol% (MS-B), as the reaction solvent and catalyst. As the raw material arom.Several substances with their cas registry numbers 85-01-8 and 1321-94-4 may be metioned in this study. compds. such as naphthalene, substituted naphthalene, anthracene, etc. were mainly used. A raw material dissolved in one of the molten salts was heated at 250-300° for a few to 10 h yielding coke in the form of powder or flakes. An equimolar mixt. of naphthalene with a polychloroethane also gave coke at a temp. as low as 200° when heated in MS-B. Generally, the graphitizability of the resulting cokes ranged widely depending mainly on the nature of the raw material. When stopped halfway, the reaction sometimes yielded a kind of pitch which was easily changeable to mesophase pitch. Some other variations of the procedure and the basic chem. of these reactions were also studied. .

Thus, a polyester plush fabric was treated with methylnaphthalene [1321-94-4] for 30 min at 130° in a rotating bag and tentered 20s at 180° to give a fabric with chinchilla-like surface.Except for chemicals metioned above, 50-21-5 and 1321-94-4 are also used. .
