Thus, 100 g unbleached cellulose pulp was mixed with 2.1 l. water and the suspension was adjusted to pH 7. Tests were conducted for resin deposition at 20 and 45.degree. with no additive present and in the presence of Graham salt, Na4P2O7, diethylenetriaminepentamethylenephosphonic acid (I) [15827-60-8] and ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid (II) [1429-50-1].Several substances with their cas registry numbers 10361-03-2 and 15827-60-8 may be metioned in this study. At 20.degree. the deposition values were 4.1, 2.6, 3.7, 1.4 and 1.2 mg, resp., and at 40.degree. 8.0, 4.9, 6.3, 2.7, and 2.6 mg, resp. The use of I and II reduced resin deposition by 60-70%. Examples of these and other similar additives were equally effective in paper manufg. systems in the presence of other paper additives, pigments, and fillers. .
